Before you can join the modeling agency, you should have a decent portfolio.  A portfolio is created by a professional photographer and should put you in the best light.  You may want to use hair stylists as well as makeup artists to get the best photos of you.  There are many places that can create a professional modeling portfolio that will not cost you a lot of money.

It is best to choose a modeling agency that will allow you to be proactive in your search for modeling jobs.  If you choose a site that only allows the clients to look at your photos, you cut down your chances of finding jobs.  Many clients would rather just post a job and see who applies.
